Cornflower decided last May that she would try to grow out her hair to donate to a program called "Locks of Love" that uses the required minimum of 10 inches of hair to create wigs for people (mostly children) who have lost their own hair to chemotherapy or other medical conditions.
Cornflower thought that it was something that even she could do to help cancer patients. Her maternal grandfather went through chemo last Spring and she knew he had received a lot of help from volunteers and friends as well as her grandmother to get through it. (He is doing amazingly well now, thank the Lord!).
In any case, not cutting her hair for months at a time proved a challenge. The ever lengthening tresses became at times a hinderance (especially at play or taekwondo) and at times it became a downright burden as it tangled more frequently into knots and...well...rat's nests. The day when 10 inches could be reached was longed for by both of us!
At long last, it came to pass.

We are both 10 inches lighter and loving the simplicity of hair care at shoulder length. There was an end to our struggle and we most certainly were not put upon as those children who undergo medical treatment are. I am glad that Cornflower had this experience because with each day of waiting for "the cut" and each frustrating bout with the comb and brush, she had in her mind why and for whom she was doing this.
