The club studies Shakespeare himself, reads a children's version of a new play each week, and reads in part portions of the complete play of A Comedy of Errors. We have begun to enjoy our own readings of Shakespeare using the Leon Garfield books Shakespeare Stories I and II. Cornflower and I decided to create our own Antipholus and Dromio and then copy them and add further color to create twins of our own for possible puppet theatre presentation at later date. The possibilities are endless.
As we read and re-read sections of The Comedy of Errors, Cornflower is developing an appreciation of the language play and humor in Shakespeare's writing. This reading is a departure and an adventure from Cornflower's other reading for fun or for academic purposes.
The club will be taking a field trip to a Shakespeare performance theatre at which the children will see A Midsummer Night's Dream, participate in an acting workshop, and see snippets from a number of other plays performed. We can't wait!
