Cornflower decided that she wanted...what else... a book character birthday party. She invited her friends to come dressed as one of their favorite book characters and 3 clues to help us guess you they were.
Even Cornflower's little sister and dad got into the spirit of it with costumes as well.
They were Laura Ingalls, Carrie Ingalls and Ben Franklin respectively. As coordinator of the event, I was Mary Poppins.
The party began with a 3 clues guessing game of who the characters were. Among Cornflower's friends we had: a number of American girls (Josephina, Molly, Felicity), Dr. Seuss's Thing 1 and Thing 2 (works great with twins!), Lucy Pevensey from Narnia, Jessie Alden from the Boxcar Children, the wicked Queen from Snow White, Catherine from Catherine, Called Birdy, another Laura Ingalls and a zebra named Camille from a book by the same title.
We then commenced playing games such as:
Treasure Island Union Jack-Pirate Flag Stop-n-Go and Hellen Keller Pin the Book on the Bookshelf.
We enjoyed a simple repast menu courtesy of Redwall with"
Friar Hugo's Tomato and Mossflowerella Cheese Pie (read pizza)
Basil Stag Hare's Crunchy Carrots (just what it says)
Silent Sam's Strawberry-Raspberry Cordial (read punch)
and last but not least,
Cornflower's Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake (just what it says)
After eating, the characters decorated wooden people bookmarkers while listening to funny poems and then after presents were opened came the grande finale...an obstacle course.
The course ran as follows:
1. The Enormous Egg and spoon sprint
2. Rabbit Georgie's gigantic leap over the creek from Rabbit Hill
3. The river stone carry (with bare toes) to the Banks of Plum Creek
4. Crawl through a tunnel box until you can exit by finding A Door in the Wall
5. Search through the greenery of the Secret Garden to find the key
6 Dash to the finish
Now, the challenge was for everyone together to finish the course in under 10 minutes.
Well, with Cornflower's little sister as anchor-person, the group finished in 10 minutes and 4 seconds. The cheering was deafening!!
The obstacle course wound up as everyone's favorite event and we will be hard pressed to ever top it in the future!
It was a splendid day and we were so blessed to be able to share the event with so many friends and missed the few that couldn't make it.
Cornflower's little sister enjoyed it as much if not more than Cornflower herself and as it was really a joint party - we were glad they both loved it so much. I hope our video of the event lasts until they are grown-up and can revisit the fun again and again.
