New York City

Cornflower and I had the wonderful but hurried opportunity to go to NYC to attend the wedding of one of my cousins. While we had a fabulous time without any travel delays, ate good food, enjoyed the chance to see grandparents and cousins, and even see a very, very little part of NYC, we were nuts enough to squeeze it all into about 6 hours!!

Knowing we were going to be extremely limited on time (as we were to go and return the same day leaving Poppy behind in the arms of her capable Daddy), Cornflower opted not to attempt to visit the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art or Ellis Island (both high on her wish list) as it would be "too frustrating" to not see all she wanted there.

We did nevertheless manage to

  • visit (all too briefly) with a dear friend of mine from college (who helped me survive Sr. comps!),

  • watch a bit of a Dominican cultural parade,

  • check out St. Patrick's Cathedral and

  • the Church of Notre Dame (the interior replicates the Lourdes grotto),

  • taxi around Central Park,

  • see for ourselves the Empire State Building (from outside) and

  • Patience and Fortitude the lions of the NY Public Library,

  • be overwhelmed by the chaos of Times Square and

  • enjoy the happy occasion of the wedding itself.

Sheer exhaustion helped us to sleep well that night back in our own beds. How blessed we are to have made the trip!
