Carolina Wrens growing

The Carolina Wren watch on Our Side of the Mountain continues with regular check-ups on Mama Wren and the hatched babies. Poor Mama Wren is still wary looking and while we are very careful to be an unobtrusive as possible - I am sure her already rapid heartbeat is even more so when we observe her. I hope she will forgive or ignore us and continue caring for her brood as we simply cannot pass up this incredible opportunity to watch this entire sequence of events (nest, eggs, newly hatched, nestlings, fledglings, and juvenile). Here are a couple of pictures each of Mama Wren and the growing nestlings. Thank goodness they nestlings will eventually look like Mama Wren as they are not in their "prettiest" look right now!

P.S. Note the nestlings' beak color is a vibrant yellow in contrast to Mama Wren's black beak? Cornflower, why is that?
