Carolina Wren babies

After much anticipation and patience, we were finally rewarded with a peek at the baby Carolina Wrens that have been nesting in our hanging basket. When we first discovered the nest, we didn't even know what was nesting there.

Then, we discovered Mama Wren in the nest one day and then we over time saw two (maybe three?) eggs appear. Mama Wren spent all her time it seemed on the nest.

Yesterday, Tuesday, June 19th, I heard peeping from the nest and was sure the babies had hatched and we were so eager to see them but with Mama on the nest, we couldn't. We saw Mama fly away from the nest and ran to get a chair so we could look in only to find to our surprise that Mama was still there! It was the Daddy Wren that we had seen leaving. We spent the evening watching Daddy repeatedly bringing insects to the nest for the babies.
We finally got a chance to take pictures of the babies in the nest today because both parents were away. You can clearly see two babies waiting to be feed here.

I am not sure who is enjoying them more, Cornflower, Poppy or me!
